Future Safe Training is genuinely some of the most relevant training I have commissioned for a residential childcare team. What stood out immediately was that the trainer clearly understands the realities of working in children’s homes. This wasn’t generic safeguarding training built around slides and legislation; the discussions were directly connected to the decisions staff have to make during real incidents.

The scenarios around exploitation, professional curiosity, information sharing and escalating safeguarding concerns were particularly valuable. Staff came away not only knowing more, but feeling more confident about what they would actually do if faced with those situations on shift.

The trainer was able to explain complex subjects around trauma, attachment, emotional regulation and behaviour in a way that residential staff could immediately relate to their day-to-day practice. Importantly, difficult behaviour was never excused, but staff were encouraged to think more carefully about what behaviour might be communicating and how our responses can either regulate or escalate a situation.

Several experienced members of my team commented afterwards that it had made them reconsider aspects of their own practice. For me, that demonstrates the quality of the session. Engaging, challenging and extremely relevant to residential childcare.

One of the strongest aspects of Future Safe Training is the operational experience behind the training. There is a noticeable difference when safeguarding is being taught by somebody who understands policing, residential childcare and the practical difficulties of multi-agency working.

Our safeguarding session covered much more than simply recognising abuse. Staff were challenged around professional curiosity, recording, escalation, thresholds, information sharing and what to do when another professional or agency does not respond in the way we expect.

That was particularly useful for our team because safeguarding in residential care is rarely straightforward. The training gave staff a much stronger understanding of their own professional responsibility and the importance of being able to explain and evidence the decisions they make.
